30MIN GROUNDWORK LESSON

Recommended for those completely new to horses or those who wish to ride long term, those who wish to spend time with a horse without riding at all, or those who want to own their own horse one day. (So, almost everyone!)

A beginner groundwork lesson will cover haltering, leading, grooming, lunging, safety, and body language. This provides the opportunity to go more in-depth on such topics than a 1hr riding lesson would allow time for.

Topics can be customized to student need or interest but can include discussing how the equine brain may view the world differently from us humans, how horses communicate via body language and how you should be using your body language to communicate any time you're near a horse, and how this knowledge can be used when the line of communication between you and your horse gets jumbled up.

Other topics can include: What different riding disciplines and tack look like, liberty and round pen work, how to tell if a horse is sick or in pain, basic horse feeding and nutrition, basic saddle and tack fitting, and much more.

30MIN "TINY TOT" RIDING LESSON

Lead-line riding lesson. Horse is saddled and ready before you arrive, student rides for 20 minutes then helps brush the horse and give treats for the last 10 minutes. This is a great introduction for kids who have never ridden or don't have the attention span for a 1hr lesson.

Instruction is customized to rider experience and goals, so let your coach know if you are looking for a good workout, some relaxing fun and games, working up to own your own horse someday, or anywhere in between!

Beginners/young children may be kept on a lead line or lunge line until adequate strength, confidence and skills have been proven.

IMPORTANT INFO

Our horses are considered a fellow student in our lessons, not an object to be used. Their happiness and comfort is prioritized just as much as the rider's is. They are generally not scheduled for more than a 60 minute riding lesson per day and are monitored closely to determine physical and emotional health.

However, horses do get sick and injure themselves/go lame, throw shoes, etc. In the case of the scheduled lesson horse not being able to be ridden on the day of your lesson, we will give you as much warning as possible and have an alternative lesson plan ready. In the case of a horse developing pain/lameness in the middle of a lesson, we will end the riding portion early, and move on to various activities listed below.

Non-mounted lessons may still include working with the horse in grooming, groundwork/lunging, liberty work (using your body language to "control" the horse's movements and communicate with them while they are loose, no ropes, halters, or other tools), etc. We believe these are things all students should learn anyway, as being a good equestrian consists of a lot more than just spending time in the saddle. Because of this, NO REFUNDS will be given for an unplanned non-mounted riding lesson. We want our students to understand that horses have to be given care unconditionally, regardless of what they can give us in return.

If the horse is not up to doing groundwork activities, we will do other activities such as: learn about equine nutrition and feeding, learn horse anatomy by painting horse body parts onto an actual horse, learn how to properly fit a saddle to a horse, practice braiding manes and tails for horse shows, give a horse a bath, learn how to care for/clean saddles and tack, develop balance and strength through "mounted" ride-a-barrel exercises, and much more! These are all vital things that everyone who wants to own or ride horses should learn and practice, and should not be considered a second choice or "backup" activity, rather an opportunity to develop more advanced horsemanship.

Please read our Policies, Rules and Liability Waiver linked below, and email or bring a signed copy to your first lesson.
